About the role
We are looking for a Software Engineer with at least one year of professional development experience who can take responsibility for building and delivering working software.
At RealAIzation, engineers work on real business problems across different products, systems, and technologies. Requirements are not always fully defined, and the approach to solving a problem is not always predetermined.
We expect engineers to ask the right questions, identify what is missing, make reasonable technical decisions, and turn requirements into working, deployed solutions.
AI-assisted development is an important part of how we build software. We expect engineers to use these tools effectively while maintaining a clear understanding of the code, architecture, and systems they work with.
This is a software engineering position, not an AI/ML research or model development role.
You will work closely with experienced engineers in a globally distributed team, with substantial responsibility for your own work and opportunities to contribute to technical decisions.
What You'll Do
Your responsibilities will include:
- Translating business and technical requirements into working software.
- Identifying unclear requirements, communicating assumptions, and asking questions before making significant implementation decisions.
- Designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications, APIs, services, and integrations.
- Using AI-assisted development tools to improve development speed, debugging, testing, and implementation.
- Reviewing and validating AI-generated code for correctness, security, and maintainability.
- Working with AWS services to deploy, operate, and troubleshoot applications.
- Understanding existing codebases and contributing to systems you may not have originally developed.
- Communicating technical decisions, progress, dependencies, and blockers clearly.
- Collaborating with engineers across different countries and time zones.
- Taking responsibility for assigned work from implementation through deployment and subsequent improvements.
We expect engineers to work efficiently while making appropriate technical decisions. Delivering quickly is important, but not at the expense of reliability or maintainability.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate the following:
Professional Experience
- At least one year of professional software development experience.
- Experience contributing to software applications or services that have been developed, tested, and delivered.
Engineering Fundamentals
- A solid understanding of software engineering principles, including APIs, databases, application architecture, testing, debugging, and version control.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language.
- The ability to understand unfamiliar codebases, investigate problems, and implement solutions independently.
AI-Assisted Development
- Familiarity with modern AI-assisted development tools and workflows.
- The ability to use AI-generated code responsibly, including reviewing, testing, debugging, and validating implementations.
- An understanding that AI tools support engineering decisions rather than replace them.
Cloud and Deployment
- Practical hands-on experience with AWS.
- A working understanding of cloud services, application deployment, and basic infrastructure concepts.
- AWS experience gained through personal projects, independent development, or professional work is equally acceptable.
Problem-Solving and Ownership
- The ability to work with partially defined requirements and identify the information needed to proceed.
- A willingness to make reasonable technical decisions and take responsibility for their outcomes.
- The ability to recognize when clarification, collaboration, or technical review is necessary.
Communication
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
- The ability to explain technical decisions, ask clear questions, and communicate progress or blockers without requiring repeated follow-ups.
- Comfort working independently and collaboratively within a distributed engineering team.
How We Work
RealAIzation operates with a small, focused engineering team working across different products, technical domains, and business environments.
We do not follow a traditional large-enterprise software development structure with narrowly divided responsibilities and multiple layers of handoffs.
Our engineers are expected to understand the problems they are solving, contribute to technical decisions, and take responsibility for delivering working solutions.
We place particular importance on:
Ownership
Taking responsibility for the outcome of assigned work, not simply completing individual development tasks.
Engineering Judgment
Understanding the systems being built, evaluating technical trade-offs, and recognizing the limitations of proposed solutions.
Communication
Asking questions when requirements are unclear, communicating decisions, and raising issues early rather than allowing problems to remain unresolved.
Independence
Making meaningful progress without constant supervision while knowing when to involve other engineers.
Collaboration
Working constructively with colleagues, sharing technical knowledge, and being open to feedback and alternative approaches.
Adaptability
Working with unfamiliar systems, changing requirements, and new technologies when the problem requires it.
We invest significantly in our engineering team and the systems that support its work. We are deliberate about hiring because each engineer has a meaningful role in how the team operates.
We value demonstrated competence, sound judgment, and consistent communication more than familiarity with a particular technology stack or development methodology.
Remote Work and Global Collaboration
This is a fully remote, full-time position based in Sri Lanka.
Our engineering team works across multiple international locations, including the United States, Europe, and Asia.
The position requires consistent working-hour overlap with U.S. time zones, primarily Eastern and Central, with occasional coordination involving Pacific time.
This will require availability during evening or nighttime hours in Sri Lanka, depending on project and team requirements.
The ability to maintain the required U.S. time-zone overlap is a mandatory condition of this role.
Because our team is distributed, clear and proactive communication is particularly important.
We expect engineers to participate in remote technical discussions, communicate progress and blockers, and remain accessible during agreed working hours.
Our approach to remote work emphasizes individual accountability, effective collaboration, and clear communication rather than continuous supervision.
Additional Experience That Would Be Valuable
The following experience would be useful but is not mandatory:
- Python development, particularly backend applications and APIs.
- Experience with FastAPI or similar backend frameworks.
- JavaScript or TypeScript development.
- Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Docker and containerized application deployment.
- CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment workflows.
- Experience building and deploying complete applications independently.
- Experience with AI coding assistants and agent-based development workflows.
- Experience working with cloud-hosted applications, external APIs, and third-party service integrations.
Candidates are not expected to have experience with every technology listed above.
We are primarily interested in strong software engineering fundamentals, practical problem-solving ability, and evidence of having delivered working software.
A formal degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is welcome but is not mandatory.
